1.13 has completely different method of customizing the world generation called "Buffet". While we finally can see the Sky Dimension without mods, all old customized worlds from as early as 1.8 won't load. Not that you couldn't convert them from JSON to another kind of JSON or just simply edit the level.dat and put that config in there like in the old days. So enjoy these while you can, because Mojang is too lazy to provide an upgrade path, caring too much not to create chunk borders, which I consider a feature. Maybe in 1.14 or 1.15 they will bring it back, who knows.
1.13 may have completely different commands and water handling, but terrain generation is powered by essentially the same algorithm since at least Alpha 1.2.0. Then in Beta 1.8 about 9 biomes took control over everything, bringing in a few more until 1.2, and in 1.7 the boring terrain was finally fixed. And since 1.8, we can have fun and benchmark our CPUs and RAM, as well as Java itself, with somewhat limited terrain customization, especially in the terms of biomes (which even 1.13 didn't improve that much). For 1.7 and earlier, we have mods. Mojang's take on the promised Modding API is quite different from Forge and is happening in small steps, but at least it's something.
Mojang should add these world types from earlier versions, with options to generate anachronic structures and toggle Farlands:
Pocket Edition Old
Indev ("Finite" - customize)
Alpha 1.1.2 ("Ancient")
Beta 1.7 ("Older" or "Large Beaches")
1.1 ("Older Large Oceans" or "Old Continental" or "Flatlands")

And the current generator but with large oceans, since 1.13 made them finally relevant. The Sky Dimension should be there like more boring Aether and be accessible by elytra. It's just a Buffet preset, content-wise.
It's inconvenient to have multiple separate versions just for their terrain generators, and it makes people stuck with a certain version, much like the combat update and ever diminishing performance.
Also more size options for no-cheat survival would be welcome:

4G, 130M (Ant's NoLimit Unexplicable Crash Zone), 64M (old noclip), 60M (current), 8M (Pocket Edition noclip), 64K (for servers), 8K (with half precision);

1.13 may have completely different commands and water handling, but terrain generation is powered by essentially the same algorithm since at least Alpha 1.2.0. Then in Beta 1.8 about 9 biomes took control over everything, bringing in a few more until 1.2, and in 1.7 the boring terrain was finally fixed. And since 1.8, we can have fun and benchmark our CPUs and RAM, as well as Java itself, with somewhat limited terrain customization, especially in the terms of biomes (which even 1.13 didn't improve that much). For 1.7 and earlier, we have mods. Mojang's take on the promised Modding API is quite different from Forge and is happening in small steps, but at least it's something.
Mojang should add these world types from earlier versions, with options to generate anachronic structures and toggle Farlands:

And the current generator but with large oceans, since 1.13 made them finally relevant. The Sky Dimension should be there like more boring Aether and be accessible by elytra. It's just a Buffet preset, content-wise.
It's inconvenient to have multiple separate versions just for their terrain generators, and it makes people stuck with a certain version, much like the combat update and ever diminishing performance.
Also more size options for no-cheat survival would be welcome:

4G, 130M (Ant's NoLimit Unexplicable Crash Zone), 64M (old noclip), 60M (current), 8M (Pocket Edition noclip), 64K (for servers), 8K (with half precision);
