2 days ago I've watched the Hunger Games movie. Compared to book, it probably isn't as good, but I don't like reading books, because tl;dr. But I might attempt to read it in English, because I would like to attempt to get CAE some time. On the back of the book (Czech translation), it was written, that the show is "zvrácená", which literally translates to "perverted", but it's more like weird or strange. After thinking about the Hunger Games show itself, I've realized, that substantial amount of computer games are attempting to reproduce this concept for around 20 years, ever since Doom, greatly pushed forward by Minecraft, not in the terms of graphics. Just multiplayer (Team) Last Man Standing or Deathmatch in natural-behaving and looking arena. And just because I've been thinking over it attempting to sleep, I've incorporated several more books, games, and even some countries' specialty beverages into it. Just imagine it:
Hunger Games - Central area with supplies (condoms must be there included in order to have safe romantic night), main concept, team/district select
Divergent/Insurgent/that-3rd-part-that-wasn't-released-in-Czechia-yet Allegiant - Caste/Fraction select
Battlefield - Guns, armor (special suit expansion to play music), cars, airplanes, helicopters etc.
GTA - MOAR guns, cars, helicopters and airplanes, also something like cities, even maybe police
Minecraft/Terraria - Things like pickaxes, shovels, swords, also monsters (real ones), ores and note blocks
Counter-Strike - C4, grenades, defusal kit, hostages, whether cop or normal player (like Ts and CTs - complementary with GTA)
Assasin's Creed 4 - Naval battles (also option to be a pirate), parkour
World of Tanks/Airplanes - Some of tank and airplane fight mechanics (controlling, crew)
World of Warcraft - Dungeons, RPG mechanics
Starcraft - Gas and mineral sources
Mario - Mushrooms and tubes
One Must Fall 2097 - Big robots (maybe like Supreme Commander)
Perestroika - Disappearing and reappearing lilypads
Australia - Many deadly animals
Russia/Finland - Vodka!
Czechia/Germany - Beer! And socks in sandals, as well as plastic bags from Kaufland/Lidl/Penny Market/Tesco.
France/Italy - Wine!
MURRICA - Fast foods, hamburgers, fried chicken, freedom, democracy (as in war technology) and the bald eagle.
Sweden - Equality, gay rights, abortion and shit like that
Canada - Free healthcare (as by the nature)
Doom - BFG9000 and Plasma Gun
Quake 3 Arena - BFG10K
Duke Nukem 3D - MOAR weapons and powerups
Need for Speed - Racing and tuning
Chile - free helicopter rides
Space addition (will require extending the area greatly):
Jazz Jackrabbit/Starbound/our solar system - MOAR planets
Star Wars - Spaceships and Lightsabers
Startrek - MOAR Spaceships and tlhIngan Hol (Klingon)
No Man's Sky - even MOAR planets
Supernatural addition:
World of Warcraft - Dragons, giants etc.
Slender - Catches each player as pages are individually collected, affects score multiplier, for Last Man Standing is the page system completely useless
Magicka - Spell system
Harry Potter - Command line spell system (for console nerd)
LOTR - Elves, Hobbits etc. as classes
Narnia - Portals to the Narnia and other dimensions (Nether and The End from Minecraft)
Minecraft - The 2 dimensions and other monsters (like Ender Dragon, Skeletons and creepers)
Left 4 Dead - Zombies! and powerups
Touhou - playing as cute female magicians, some locations
And few specialties:
Windows 98 - Each non-player object may become unresponsive on occasion and after some time it will either disappear or become responsive again, if player waits. It may even crash. Probability of this occurence could be set.
The manuals to various things in-game will serve as a toilet paper, along with other thick books like Bible, Quran, Victor Hugo - Les Miserables, Giovanni Boccacio - Decameron, and other compulsory reading
Pokémon - Possibility to battle with Pokémon armies and using their special capabilities to facilitate navigation around the arena. No Pokémon centers, but energy stones. Berries imported too. Also no Pokéballs, they will walk/fly/swim with you, if they can, otherwise they will stay and attack any nearby enemies. They will preserve loot.
Doge - Wow. Much doge. Very shibe. Such wow. Also Dogeberries, Dogecoins (in-game currency) and "real" shibes in the wild.
It would be somewhat similar to DayZ (like realistic Minecraft with Left 4 Dead elements), but with tons of unnecessary content, altough which will be fun to play with. This proves the hypothesis, that this concept of survival games is not new at all and people are interested in it.
That's it. Wouldn't it be just crazy? And kind of costly to develop? Never mind, it would be probably too complicated to balance all this stuff. But it's interesting to think about it - the ultimate survival sandbox. It's not affiliated with just hunger nor just games anymore - let's call it TEH ZOMG WARZ!!!1111
EDIT (2017/09/30): As this genre of games has been named Battle Royale, I changed the title a little to get more views and search hits. Excluding multiplayer Minecraft on hardcore, 1st there was DayZ, which got stuck in Early Access, then H1Z1, then came something GTA4-level unoptimized - Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, which exceeded any Valve game in sales on Steam alone, that the devs should have the money to hire UE4 experts. As if having people to buy better components is more profitable than attemping to make the game run on average Joe's craptop. Then came many ripoffs like Fortnite Battle Royale.
The resulting game should be 100% procedural like NMS. In Python-esque pseudocode it goes like this:
Generate terrain
Scatter Items
Scatter Players
Start
.game
For each time in gameday: reduce playable area by increment
If team count == 1 and playercount == 1: end
else: goto .game
